Jeremy Jones (freerider)
Jeremy Jones (born 14 January 1975, on Cape Cod, MA) is a professional snowboarder, known for big mountain freeriding. He is sponsored by: O'Neill, POC, CLIF Bar, Scott, Giro, 661 and Blue Bird Wax. Founder of his own freeride-oriented snowboard brand, Jones Snowboards. Currently, Jones works primarily to create and improve his line of snowboards and films that record his adventures climbing and snowboarding mountains around the world. In November 2012, Jones was selected by National Geographic Magazine as a nominee for Adventurer of the Year, based on his, "remarkable achievements in exploration, conservation, humanitarianism, and adventure sports." 〔http://adventure.nationalgeographic.com/adventure/adventurers-of-the-year/2013/vote/〕 Jones is also the founder of the non-profit group, Protect Our Winters, which works to reduce the effects of global climate change by means of educational, activist and community based projects. 〔http://protectourwinters.org/about〕
==Early life==
Jones grew up in New England - Cape Cod Massachusetts, Vermont, and Maine. He started riding in 1984 and continued on to Carrabassett Valley Academy, in Carrabassett Valley, Maine, graduating in 1993. He signed with Rossignol in 1989〔http://www.rossignol.com/〕 and turned pro two years later in 1991. Jones raced on his snowboard for many years.
After racing for many years Jones began to concentrate on big mountain riding, mainly in his favourite place to ride, Alaska. It is thought that being a former snowboard racer influenced his big mountain snowboarding and that his style was a seminal influence on modern freeriding, henceforward Jones is regarded as a pioneer of professional big mountain riding.
